Low Carb Diet vs Atkins Diet
Last month the Daily Mirror enlisted the help of Rob Clark during their diet trial. Participants ate either a low-carbohydrate diet or the no-carbohydrate Atkins diet for one month. All participants had two consultations with Rob, which included a personal health check and monitoring.
In this trial the best results were achieved with the low-carbohydrate diet which included plenty of quality protein from fish, chicken, meat and eggs and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. The diet limited carbohydrates like potatoes and rice and cut out sugary foods and refined carbohydrates. Rob states that although participants did best on the low carbohydrate diet the Atkins diet can also work for well for those people who may have severe blood sugar problems or carbohydrate cravings. Sometimes people may need to avoid carbohydrate completely for a certain period of time in order to shift their metabolism into fat burning mode.
The bottom line is that dietary advice should be different for every one. We are all individuals and different people need different approaches.
Notes on Weight Management
It should be noted that there are no quick fixes and that any dietary changes will need to be addressed in conjunction with an exercise programme.
If you are finding it particularly difficult to manage your weight you may want to consider having your thyroid checked as an under active thyroid can lead to weight gain. Those who are unable to put on weight may have an overactive thyroid.
A hair mineral analysis will tell you whether you have toxic elements in your system that can impact on the energy producing pathways of the body. Toxic elements can also cause a depletion of the mineral elements, causing low energy levels and fatigue. Hormonal imbalances, allergies and poor digestive function may also play a role.
