Psychological Complaints
Unfortunately, psychological complaints are on the rise and although antidepressants and other drugs that are used to treat these conditions can be lifesavers, they do not always offer a long-term solution. Over the past decade there has been a great deal of interest, and research, into the link between mood and food - B6 vitamin C, folic acid, essential fatty acids and zinc are all essential good mood nutrients. The diet may need to be carefully managed since fluctuations in energy levels due to blood sugar imbalance will contribute to mood problems, as do food allergies. A metabolic profile will be of benefit. While the importance of amino acids, fatty acids, and minerals for neurotransmitter control has been well established, every patient is biochemically unique. A metabolic profile helps to identify depressed patients who may benefit from specific nutritional approaches.
Those who suffer from psychological complaints may also want to consider a hair mineral analysis which can uncover toxic elements. Lead and mercury for example have been clinically shown to induce symptoms of anxiety.
